Repairs
Electricals and appliance help in Leeds
Let us be straight about what we are before you read on. We are computer and electronics people, not electricians and not gas engineers, and there is a line we do not cross. What we can do is help with small plug-in electricals and gadgets, and the electronic and connected side of modern appliances, the part that has a circuit board, a display or a wifi connection in it. We fault-find honestly, tell you what has actually failed and whether it is worth fixing, and sort what is safely and economically repairable. Anything wired into the mains, anything gas, or anything that by law needs a registered trade, we will tell you plainly and send you to the right person. Televisions have their own page.
- No fix, no fee
- We come to you
- The diagnosis is always free
- A real person who does the work, not a call centre
Does this sound like yours?
The faults we see most
- A small plug-in appliance or gadget has stopped powering on, and you are not sure whether it is the device, the cable or the plug
- A device works only when the cable is held or wiggled at a certain angle
- A smart or connected appliance will not join the wifi, or has dropped off it and will not come back
- The app for a smart appliance cannot find it, keeps signing out, or shows it as offline
- A connected appliance updated itself and has not worked properly since
- A gadget's screen, buttons or controls have stopped responding
- A rechargeable device will not charge or hold a charge
- You have been quoted for a repair elsewhere and want an honest second opinion on whether it is worth it
- You are not sure whether what you have is even our trade or an electrician's, and you want telling straight
Not on the list? Call anyway and describe it. The diagnosis is free either way.
What we do
Name the fault, then the fix, then the price
- Tell us what the device is, roughly how old it is, and exactly what it is doing on the phone, and we will tell you honestly whether it is something we can help with or something that needs a different trade, before anyone comes out
- We come to you across Leeds, at home, because most of this is easier to judge where the device actually lives and plugs in
- Small plug-in electricals: we fault-find where the problem really is, the device, the cable, the plug top or its fuse, and fix or replace what is safely repairable. Where the fault is inside a sealed mains appliance, we tell you that plainly rather than open something we should not
- The connected and smart side of appliances: getting them onto the wifi, back into the app, updated, and talking to your phone or your speaker, which is the part that has far more in common with a computer than with a plug
- A straight fault-find and a second opinion: we tell you what has actually failed and whether the repair is worth it against the price of replacing, so you are not paying to mend something that is not worth mending
- Where the answer is a registered trade, we say so and stop. Anything gas is a Gas Safe registered engineer, and anything wired into the mains, a consumer unit, a fixed appliance or rewiring, is a qualified electrician. We do not do that work and we will not pretend we do
- We will not take on a repair that cannot be done safely, however simple it looks, because a bodged electrical fix is not worth the risk to you or your home
- You get a fixed quote before any work begins, and if the honest answer is that it is not worth fixing or is not our trade, you will hear that at no charge
How long it takes
An honest answer, not a booking slot
The connected and smart-appliance side, getting a device back onto the wifi and into its app, is usually sorted inside the visit. A fault-find on a small electrical is quick too: we can normally tell you on the day what has failed and whether it is worth fixing. A repair that needs a part waits on the right one reaching us for that exact device, which can be a few days, and we will say so when we quote. Where the honest answer is that it needs a registered electrician or a Gas Safe engineer, that is not a delay on our side, it is simply not our job, and we will tell you that straight away rather than string you along.
What it costs
The diagnosis is free, then you get a fixed quote
We do not publish a price list, because a price list for this work would be a fiction: the same fault costs different money on different machines. What we can do is tell you what moves the number, then give you one fixed quote before any work starts. If we cannot fix it, there is nothing to pay.
What drives the price
- Whether it is a fault we can safely and sensibly repair, or one that needs a registered trade, which is not our work at all
- Whether the trouble is the connected and software side, which is time, or a hardware fault that needs a part as well
- The part itself, and what it costs for that exact device
- Whether the repair is worth doing at all against the cost of simply replacing the device, which we will tell you honestly
- How the device is built and whether it can be opened and worked on safely
- How far the fault has run before we see it

Questions
The things people ask
Are you electricians? Can you rewire something or fix my cooker?
No, and this is the honest boundary of what we do. We are computer and electronics people, not electricians and not gas engineers. Anything wired into the mains, a consumer unit, a fixed appliance, or rewiring, needs a qualified electrician, and anything gas needs a Gas Safe registered engineer. We will not do that work, because it is not our trade and doing it badly is dangerous. What we can do is fault-find, tell you honestly what has failed, and point you to the right registered person when that is what it needs.
What kind of appliances can you actually help with, then?
The electronic and connected side of them. Modern appliances have circuit boards, displays and wifi in them, and that part has far more in common with a computer than with the plumbing or the mains wiring. So getting a smart appliance back onto the wifi, into its app and updated, or fault-finding a small plug-in electrical to tell you what has gone and whether it is worth fixing, is squarely what we do. Opening up a sealed mains appliance to repair its motor or its heating element is not.
My smart appliance will not connect to the wifi. Can you sort that?
Yes, that is right in the middle of what we do. A connected appliance that will not join the wifi, has dropped off it, or will not show up in its app is usually a network, an account or an update problem, the same sort of thing we sort on any connected device. We get it back onto your wifi and talking to your phone, and if the real trouble is the wifi not reaching that corner of the house, we will tell you that too.
Is it worth repairing, or should I just replace it?
That is exactly the question we will give you a straight answer to, at no charge either way. With small electricals and gadgets there is often a point where a repair costs more than the thing is worth, and we would rather tell you that than take the job. Where a fix is safe, sensible and cheaper than replacing, we will say so and do it. Where it is not, we will tell you plainly and not spend your money on it.
How much will it cost?
We do not publish a figure, because a plug and fuse on a lamp and a fault-find on a connected appliance are not the same job, and the same symptom costs different money on different devices. You get a free look, then one fixed quote before any work begins. And where the honest answer is that it is not worth fixing, or that it needs a registered trade rather than us, you will hear that at no charge.
Is your work guaranteed after the repair?
Yes. We stand behind the repairs we carry out. If the same fault we fixed returns within a reasonable period as a result of our work, get in touch and we will put it right. That does not cover new or unrelated faults, accidental damage, liquid damage, or problems caused by other work carried out after ours, and nothing in it affects your statutory rights.
