TV and smart TV help in Leeds

Some television faults are worth fixing and some honestly are not, and the difference is not always the one people expect. Tell us the make, roughly how old it is, and exactly what it is doing, a black screen, no power, sound but no picture, or a smart TV that will not connect. We come to you, find out what is really wrong at no charge, and tell you plainly whether it is worth mending or whether your money is better kept. We will not talk you into repairing a set that is not worth it.

What we do

Name the fault, then the fix, then the price

  1. Tell us the make, the rough age and exactly what the set is doing on the phone, so we arrive with a fair idea of what we are looking at
  2. We come to you across Leeds, at home, because a television is not something you want to be carrying across town, and most of this is easier to judge where the set actually lives
  3. No power or a blinking standby light: we work through the supply, the power board and the cables in order. A power board or a failed component on it is a common fault and is often the repairable kind, and we will tell you if that is what yours is
  4. Sound but no picture, or a picture only under a torch: that is usually the backlight rather than the panel itself, and on many sets the backlight is repairable. We check which it is before saying anything about cost
  5. A cracked, blotched or lined panel is the honest exception. The glass panel is most of what a television costs, and once it has failed or been broken it is very rarely worth repairing against the price of a new set. If that is what you have, we will tell you straight and not charge you to hear it
  6. Sound faults, ports and connections: we find out whether it is the set, a setting, or the box or soundbar plugged into it, because it is often not the television at all
  7. Smart TV trouble: apps that will not load, a set that keeps signing you out, or a menu that has slowed to a crawl. We sort the network side, the accounts and the updates, and set it back to working
  8. Setup, wall-mounting and tuning in: we can set a new set up from the box, put your apps and accounts on, retune the channels, and mount it on the wall where the wall will safely take it, then tidy the cables away
  9. You get a fixed quote before any work begins, and where the honest answer is that it is not worth repairing, you will hear that at no charge rather than after a bill

How long it takes

An honest answer, not a booking slot

Setup, tuning, apps and smart-TV faults are usually sorted inside the visit. A power board or a backlight repair waits on the right part for that exact model reaching us, which can be a few days, and we will say so when we quote. The diagnosis itself is quick: we can normally tell you on the day whether you are looking at a repairable board, a repairable backlight, or a failed panel that is not worth mending. That last answer is the one we would rather give you early, for nothing, than string out.

What it costs

The diagnosis is free, then you get a fixed quote

We do not publish a price list, because a price list for this work would be a fiction: the same fault costs different money on different machines. What we can do is tell you what moves the number, then give you one fixed quote before any work starts. If we cannot fix it, there is nothing to pay.

Questions

The things people ask

My TV will not turn on at all. Is it worth fixing?

Often, yes, and it is worth finding out before you write it off. A set that is dead or stuck blinking on standby is frequently a power board fault, and on many televisions that is a repairable part rather than the end of the road. What is not usually worth repairing is the panel itself, the glass, because that is most of what a television costs. We will tell you for free which of the two you are looking at, so you are not spending real money on a set that was never going to be worth it.

There is sound but the screen is black. What is that?

Shine a torch close to the screen and look hard. If you can make out a faint picture under the light, the panel is alive and it is the backlight that has gone, and on a good number of sets the backlight is repairable. If there is nothing there at all, it is more likely the panel or the board, and the answer changes. We check which it is before we say anything about cost, because those are very different jobs.

The screen is cracked. Can you replace the glass?

We will be straight with you, because this is where people spend money they should not. A cracked or physically damaged panel is almost never worth repairing. The panel is the single most expensive part of a television, a replacement often costs more than a new set, and it is delicate work with no guarantee. If that is what you have, our honest advice is usually to put the money towards a new one, and we are not going to charge you to tell you that.

My apps keep buffering or signing me out but my broadband is fine. Can you sort it?

Yes, and it is rarely the broadband when it is only the television playing up. It is more often the set's own network connection, an app that needs updating, an account that has been signed out, or a smart TV that has simply got slow and full over the years. We go through the network side, the updates and the accounts and get the apps working again, and if the trouble turns out to be the Wi-Fi reaching that corner of the house, we will tell you that too.

Can you wall-mount my TV and set it up?

Yes, where the wall will safely take it. We can mount the set, tune the channels in, sign you into your apps and accounts, connect your box or soundbar, and tidy the cables away, so it is ready to watch rather than ready to fiddle with. If the wall is one that will not safely hold a set of that size, we will say so rather than put it up and hope.

How much will it cost?

We do not publish prices, because the same symptom can be a cheap board repair on one set and an uneconomic panel on another, and any figure we printed would be one we had to break. You get a free diagnosis and then one fixed quote before any work begins. And where the honest answer is that the set is not worth repairing, you will hear that at no charge rather than pay to find it out.

Is your work guaranteed after the repair?

Yes. We stand behind the repairs we carry out. If the same fault we fixed returns within a reasonable period as a result of our work, get in touch and we will put it right. That does not cover new or unrelated faults, accidental damage, liquid damage, or problems caused by other work carried out after ours, and nothing in it affects your statutory rights.
