How long it takes
An honest answer, not a booking slot
Setting a new machine up and signing you in is usually done inside the visit. Moving everything across takes as long as the amount of photos, files and email decides, and a machine with years on it is an unhurried hour or two rather than a rushed twenty minutes, because it is the one job you do not want to have to do twice. Where the old machine is slow, failing, or the drive has to be coaxed to copy from, that adds time that is worth taking rather than rushing. Wiping the old machine safely afterwards is quick once everything is confirmed across. You will know at the point we quote roughly how long yours will take, so you can plan around it.

We do not publish a price list, because a price list for this work would be a fiction: the same fault costs different money on different machines. What we can do is tell you what moves the number, then give you one fixed quote before any work starts. If we cannot fix it, there is nothing to pay.

Can you move everything off my old computer without losing anything?
Yes, and it is the heart of the job. We carry your files, photos, documents, email, contacts and browser bookmarks and passwords across to the new machine, then check together that it has all arrived. We do not wipe or hand back the old computer until you have seen for yourself that nothing is missing, so there is never a moment where your only copy is at risk.
My old laptop is broken or will not start. Can you still get my files onto the new one?
Usually, yes. The drive inside a dead laptop is very often perfectly healthy, and we can normally take it out, read it on our own kit, and move your files onto the new machine even if the old laptop never works again. The exception is a machine where the storage is soldered to the board and it is the board that failed, and we will tell you honestly if that is where you are. If the drive itself is failing, that becomes a data recovery job, and we will be straight about what is realistically recoverable.
What is bloatware, and why do you remove it?
Bloatware is the trial software, nag pop-ups and clutter that manufacturers pre-load onto a new machine, much of which starts itself every time you switch on and quietly slows the computer down from day one. None of it is anything you chose or need. We strip it out and cut down what launches at startup, so your new machine runs as quick and clean as it should, rather than dragging out of the box with software working against you.
Can you set up my printer and email on the new machine too?
Yes. Setting up the machine is only half of it, and we make sure the everyday things work before we leave: your printer connected, your email arriving and sending on it, your bookmarks and passwords in your browser, and your apps put on. The idea is that you sit down to a machine that is genuinely ready to use, not one that works for files but cannot print or get your email.
How much does a new computer setup cost?
We do not publish a figure, because setting up a machine with a little on it and moving years of photos, email and settings across are not the same job. You get a free look, we work out how much there is to do and to move, and then one fixed quote before any work begins, so you decide with the real number in front of you. If we cannot help, there is nothing to pay.
Is your work guaranteed after the repair?
Yes. We stand behind the repairs we carry out. If the same fault we fixed returns within a reasonable period as a result of our work, get in touch and we will put it right. That does not cover new or unrelated faults, accidental damage, liquid damage, or problems caused by other work carried out after ours, and nothing in it affects your statutory rights.
