Careers
Talented with hardware? We should talk.
JorTech is hiring repair people across Leeds: field technicians, specialists, trainees, and the person who will run service delivery. This page says what the work is, how we treat the people who do it, and how to apply. Applications go to careers@jortech.co.uk.
Why here
The business model is the working conditions.
The chain-shop version of this job quietly pays people to be wrong: commission on the parts you talk someone into, targets that reward the quick answer over the right one, scripts that stop you sounding like yourself. We built the opposite, and we sell it to customers on the front of this site: the diagnosis is free, there is one fixed quote before any work, and if we cannot fix it, nobody pays.
Follow that model to its conclusion and it describes the job. A technician here is never paid to upsell, because there is nothing to upsell. You are paid to be right: to find the actual fault, to price the honest fix, and to say “don't spend your money on this” when that is the truth. The business was built by someone who learned the trade at a bench, as an apprentice, and it still runs on that idea: judgement is the product, and people with judgement are treated like it.
The work
The people we are looking for.
Pay is stated plainly in your first conversation with us, before any interviews. We will not make you guess it from a job title.
-
Service delivery manager
The person who makes “we come to you” actually happen. You own the diary and the delivery: scheduling visits, keeping every customer informed without being chased, parts in and out, quality on every job that leaves the bench, and making sure nobody ever has to ask us twice. You will hear a technician describe a fault down the phone and know whether the day still works.
You: Organised to a fault, calm when the diary fights back, and happy being the name a customer remembers.
-
Field repair technician
The core of what we do: diagnosing and repairing computers and laptops at people's homes and businesses across Leeds, West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire, with bench work between visits. You run the free diagnosis, give one fixed quote, and stand behind it. Field roles need a full UK driving licence.
You: Broad across Windows hardware and software, calm in other people's kitchens, and honest when a machine is not worth fixing.
-
Phone & tablet repair specialist
Screens, batteries, charge ports, cameras and the faults in between, on the devices people can least be without. Precision work under a scope, and straight verdicts on the repairs that are not worth the customer's money.
You: Steady hands, patience for tiny fasteners and fragile connectors, and pride in a device that leaves looking the way it arrived.
-
Data recovery specialist
Failing drives, deleted files, machines that will not boot with a lifetime of photos inside. The rule here is already written into how we sell: image first, work on the copy, never gamble someone's files to win a job. You will also carry the hardest conversations we have, because sometimes the honest answer is that the data is gone.
You: Methodical before anything else, fluent in filesystems and failure modes, and comfortable refusing risky work.
-
Mac & iMac specialist
MacBooks and iMacs taken seriously: displays, batteries, storage and upgrades, macOS faults and migrations, and the judgement to know when Apple's own service is the right answer for the customer, even when that costs us the job.
You: Deep in Apple hardware and macOS, precise with adhesive and glass, and straight about warranty paths.
-
Linux & custom-build specialist
Gaming PC builds and upgrades, thermals and stability, and Linux for people who want machines that last: installs, dual boots, small servers, and rescuing setups other shops will not touch.
You: Opinionated about parts and airflow, fluent at the command line, and able to explain a choice without the jargon.
-
Trainee technician
No experience required, and taught the way the founder was taught: at a bench, next to senior people, on real faults. You start on diagnosis and build toward the specialisms above, with your development treated as part of the job rather than a favour. JorTech exists because someone took an apprentice seriously, and we intend to keep that going.
You: Curious, careful, and honest about what you do not know yet. The rest can be taught.
Not on the list? If you are genuinely good with hardware, software or the people who own them, apply anyway and name the work you want. The list describes what we need, not the limit of it.
Working life
What the days are actually like.
The work splits between the road and the bench. Field visits take you into homes and businesses across Leeds, West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire, where you are the whole company for an hour: the diagnosis, the quote, and the person they decide to trust. Between visits there is bench work, and the quieter satisfaction of a machine leaving better than it arrived.
Some things we can promise about how it feels. Nobody here works to a script. When a customer praises the honesty in a review, the honesty is yours. And because the founder was trained at a bench by someone who took an apprentice seriously, training is not an induction video here: it is senior people showing you how they think, and expecting you to argue back when you are right. It does not stop once you can hold your own, either. Professional development is continual and treated as part of the job: time to deepen your specialism, cross-train across the benches, and keep up with hardware that will not stay still.
How we hire
Five steps, nothing hidden.
-
Apply
Use the form below, or email careers@jortech.co.uk with your CV attached. PDF or Word are both fine. One true story about a job beats a page of skills.
-
A person reads it
Every application is read by a person, and every applicant gets an answer either way. Being ignored is the norm in hiring; it will not happen here.
-
The first conversation
A real conversation about real work. We tell you the pay in it, plainly, before any interviews.
-
The bench
A practical with real faults on real machines, not brainteasers. We care how you think, what you check first, and how you say the words “I don't know yet”.
-
An offer in writing
If it is a yes, everything we agreed goes in writing before you commit to anything. The same rule our customers get.
You will need the right to work in the UK, and field roles need a full UK driving licence. Your application is used for recruitment only and never shared or sold: how we handle your details.
