iPad and tablet repair in Leeds

Tell us what make of tablet it is, what it is doing, and when it started. Tablets are not just big phones: most are laminated and glued shut, the panels are large and fragile, and on an older or budget device the screen can be worth more than the tablet. We will find the fault for free, say plainly whether it is worth repairing, and give you one fixed quote before anything is opened. If we cannot fix it, you pay nothing.

The faults we see most

Not on the list? Call anyway and describe it. The diagnosis is free either way.

What we do

Name the fault, then the fix, then the price

  1. You tell us the make and model on the phone, an iPad, a Galaxy Tab, a Lenovo, an Amazon Fire, so we turn up with the right panel and the right approach for how that device is built
  2. We come to you across Leeds, at home or at work, which suits tablets well because there is nothing to unplug and a child's or a grandparent's tablet rarely wants to leave the house. You can drop it to us instead if that is easier
  3. A cracked screen: we tell you first whether your model is laminated, meaning the glass and the display are bonded as one unit, or whether the glass is separate, because that is the single biggest thing that decides the job on a tablet
  4. A screen being lifted from underneath: that is almost always a swelling battery, not a screen fault, and we check for it before quoting a screen, because replacing the glass without dealing with the cell would be treating the wrong problem
  5. A swollen battery comes out promptly and safely, and the tablet is charged and stored sensibly in the meantime, because a swelling cell is a genuine fire risk and it will keep forcing the screen up until it is removed
  6. Will not turn on: we work through the charger, then the port, then the battery, then the board, in that order, and we clean a lint-packed port before we ever condemn it, because on tablets that alone is often the whole fault
  7. Software faults, a boot loop, a stuck logo, a full device that will not update: we try to get it right without wiping your photos and files, and we tell you before we start if a fix would put your data at risk
  8. We are straight with you about account locks. If an iPad is held by Activation Lock or an Android tablet by a Google account, that is a security feature, not a fault, and it can only be cleared with the owner's own Apple or Google login. No honest shop can bypass it, and we will not pretend to
  9. You get a fixed quote before any work begins. On an older or budget tablet where the screen would cost more than the device is worth, we will say so plainly, and if we cannot fix it, or it is not worth the money, you pay nothing

How long it takes

An honest answer, not a booking slot

Battery replacements and charging port work are usually same day or next day once the correct part is in hand. Screens are the variable one: a laminated panel is a slower, more careful job than a phone screen, and the large glass has to be warmed off and reseated without cracking it, so it takes longer than people expect. Software faults are often sorted within the visit. Parts for the common iPads and Galaxy Tabs reach us quickly, while an unusual model or a budget tablet can wait a few days on the right panel. Water damage is the one job we will not put a clock on, because the board has to be cleaned and dried properly before it goes near power. Whichever yours is, you will know when we quote, not afterwards.

What it costs

The diagnosis is free, then you get a fixed quote

We do not publish a price list, because a price list for this work would be a fiction: the same fault costs different money on different machines. What we can do is tell you what moves the number, then give you one fixed quote before any work starts. If we cannot fix it, there is nothing to pay.

Questions

The things people ask

Is it worth replacing the screen on my tablet?

Sometimes yes, often no, and we will not pretend otherwise. On an iPad or a good Galaxy Tab a screen is usually well worth doing. On an older or budget tablet, a cheap kids' Fire tablet for instance, the laminated panel can cost more than a new device, so replacing it makes little sense. We tell you which side of that line yours falls on for free, before you commit to anything.

How much will it cost to fix my tablet?

We do not publish prices, because a laminated screen, a separate piece of glass, and a battery are all different jobs, and the same model can take a very different part from the one next to it. You get a free diagnosis and then one fixed quote before any work begins, so you are deciding with the real number in front of you. If we cannot fix it, there is nothing to pay.

One side of my iPad screen is lifting up. What is that?

That is usually a swelling battery underneath, not a screen fault, and it is worth taking seriously. Stop charging it, keep it somewhere it cannot do harm, and do not press the raised area back down or try to prise it apart yourself. A swelling cell is a fire risk and it will keep pushing the screen out of the frame. It needs the battery removed and replaced with the correct one for your model. Call us and we will come and deal with it.

My tablet is asking for a passcode or an account we cannot remember. Can you unlock it?

Not by bypassing it, and neither can anyone who is being honest with you. An Activation Lock on an iPad or a Google account lock on an Android tablet is a theft-protection feature, and it can only be cleared by signing in with the original Apple or Google account. If you have those details we can help you through it. If you do not, the tablet cannot legitimately be opened, and we will tell you that plainly rather than take your money.

Do you fix Amazon Fire and other budget tablets, not just iPads?

Yes, we look at all of them, iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Lenovo, Amazon Fire and the rest. The one thing we will always tell you first is whether the repair is worth it, because on the cheapest tablets a new screen can cost more than a replacement device. The diagnosis is free either way, so you find that out at no charge.

My tablet will not turn on at all. Is it finished?

Usually not. A tablet showing no life is most often a tired charger, a charging port clogged with lint or worn loose, or a flat battery that no longer takes a charge, rather than a dead board. We work through those in order and clean the port before condemning anything. Finding out what it actually is costs you nothing.

Is your work guaranteed after the repair?

Yes. We stand behind the repairs we carry out. If the same fault we fixed returns within a reasonable period as a result of our work, get in touch and we will put it right. That does not cover new or unrelated faults, accidental damage, liquid damage, or problems caused by other work carried out after ours, and nothing in it affects your statutory rights.
