Small business IT support in Leeds

When a machine goes down at work, somebody is sitting there being paid to do nothing. That is the real cost, and it is why we come to your premises rather than asking you to unplug a working desk and carry it across town. Tell us what has stopped, we will find out why at no charge, tell you plainly whether it is worth fixing, and give you a fixed quote before we touch anything. There is no contract and no monthly fee. You ring us when something is wrong.

Does this sound like yours?

The faults we see most

Not on the list? Call anyway and describe it. The diagnosis is free either way.

What we do

Name the fault, then the fix, then the price

  1. You ring and tell us what has stopped and who it is stopping, so we know whether this is a machine down now or a nuisance that can wait until Thursday
  2. We come to your premises across Leeds, because a work setup is docks, monitors, printers and cables, and nobody wants to strip a desk down to find out why one machine is slow
  3. Machine will not start, will not boot, or crashes: we diagnose it there, on the spot. If it can be fixed in the visit, it usually is. If it needs a part, we tell you which part and why
  4. Slow machines: we find out what is actually holding it back before anyone talks about money. It is very often an old spinning hard drive or too little memory, and that is a cheap afternoon rather than a new fleet of computers
  5. Email trouble: we work out whose problem it is. A mailbox, a password or a sign-in prompt is one job, mail landing in spam is a records problem on your domain, and an outage at your provider is theirs and not yours. Knowing which one it is costs you nothing
  6. Wi-Fi that drops or does not reach: we look at where the router actually sits, what the walls are doing to the signal, and whether an old extender is making it worse rather than better. We measure it rather than guess at it
  7. New machines and new starters: set up, accounts and email on, printers and shared folders reachable, files carried across from the old machine, and the person able to work on their first morning rather than their second
  8. Somebody leaving: their data off their machine and somewhere the business can still reach it, and their access closed properly
  9. Backups: we check whether the thing you believe is backing up is actually backing up, and whether anybody could get the files back if the machine went in a fire
  10. You get a fixed quote before any work starts, on every job. If we cannot fix it, or fixing it is not worth your money, we tell you and you pay nothing

How long it takes

An honest answer, not a booking slot

A machine that is down is the job we try to sort in the visit, and software faults, email sign-in problems and setup work usually are. Wi-Fi and network faults are quick to find and quick to fix when the answer is placement or a setting, and slower when the honest answer is that the building needs another access point, which we would quote before buying anything. Hardware waits on the part for that exact model, which can be same day or a few days. Setting up a new machine properly, with the accounts, the printers and the old files carried over, is an unhurried couple of hours rather than a ten minute job, and it is worth doing once rather than twice. We work Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm, so we can often come before you open or after you close and keep the disruption off your working day.

What it costs

The diagnosis is free, then you get a fixed quote

We do not publish a price list, because a price list for this work would be a fiction: the same fault costs different money on different machines. What we can do is tell you what moves the number, then give you one fixed quote before any work starts. If we cannot fix it, there is nothing to pay.

Questions

The things people ask

Do we have to sign a contract or pay a monthly fee?

No. There is no contract, no retainer and no subscription. You ring us when something is wrong, we quote that job, and that is the end of it. If nothing goes wrong for six months, you do not hear from us and you do not pay us. Plenty of small businesses do not need a managed IT arrangement, they need somebody who picks up and turns up.

A machine is down and somebody cannot work. How quickly can you get to us?

Ring and ask, and you will get an honest answer rather than a promise. We are one technician, not a call centre with a rota, so we will tell you on the phone when we can genuinely be with you. If it is going to be later than you need, we will often be able to get that person working on something else in the meantime rather than leaving them stuck all day.

Our email has stopped working. Is that something you deal with?

Yes, and the first job is working out whose problem it is. A mailbox that will not sign in, a sign-in prompt that will not go away, or a mail app that has lost its settings is a fix we can do with you. Mail going to customers' spam is usually the records on your domain, which is a different fix. An outage at your email provider is neither, and if that is what it turns out to be we will show you and there is nothing to pay for finding out.

The Wi-Fi drops out in half the building. Can you actually fix that?

Usually, yes, and it is rarely a mystery. It is most often one router sitting in the wrong corner of the building, thick walls between it and the people who need it, a channel that everything nearby is also using, or an extender that is quietly halving the speed of everything through it. We look at where the signal really goes rather than guessing. Sometimes the fix is free and is a matter of where a box sits and what it is set to. Sometimes the building honestly needs a second access point, and if so you see the cost and agree it before anything is bought.

We have a new starter next week and a laptop still in the box. Can you set it up?

Yes. We set the machine up, get their accounts and email on it, connect it to your printers and shared folders, move over anything they need from the machine they are replacing, and leave it in a state where they can sit down and work on their first morning. Give us a few days' notice where you can, because doing it properly is worth more than doing it at eight o'clock on the Monday.

Somebody clicked something they should not have. What do we do now?

Get that machine off the network, leave it on, and ring us. Do not carry on working on it and do not start deleting things, because what is on it tells us what happened. Then we go through it properly, find out what actually ran and what it reached, and get it clean. Whether it stops there depends on what was on the machine and what it could see, and we will be straight with you about that rather than telling you it is fine.

Is your work guaranteed after the repair?

Yes. We stand behind the repairs we carry out. If the same fault we fixed returns within a reasonable period as a result of our work, get in touch and we will put it right. That does not cover new or unrelated faults, accidental damage, liquid damage, or problems caused by other work carried out after ours, and nothing in it affects your statutory rights.
